Pepper Chicken recipe

I’m planning to cook some spicy pepper chicken for dinner today. The way I make it is pretty different from the recipes quoted on the Internet. So I thought I’ll post my version of this recipe so you can delight in this culinary classic. For those of you who don’t like too much spice, you can tone down the quantities to make the dish less spicy.


  • Chicken – 1 pound or half Kg approx. boneless and diced into cubes
  • Tomatoes – 3-4 numbers diced into small pieces
  • Curry leaves – 5-6 leaves
  • Garam Masala – 3 teaspoons
  • Ginger Garlic paste – 3 teaspoons
  • Pepper powder – 2 teaspoons
  • Salt – according to taste
  • Oil for frying

How to prepare

Clean the chicken thoroughly by washing it in warm water. Drain excess water.

For the marinade:

  •  1 teaspoon pepper powder
  • 1 and a half teaspoons of ginger garlic paste
  •  1 and a half teaspoons of garam masala
  • salt as per taste

Mix the ingredients into a smooth paste. Let the chicken pieces marinate in this mixture for at least 2-3 hours.

Once chicken is marinated well, heat oil in a pan and put the chicken pieces in. Deep fry the pieces till they turn into a golden brown color. Keep aside fried chicken pieces over a tissue paper to drain out excess oil.

Next, take curry leaves and fry in the oil. Then take the diced tomatoes and fry them in the oil. Next, add remaining 1 and a half teaspoons of ginger garlic paste. Continue frying till the raw smell goes away. Once the tomatoes are soft and pulpy add the fried chicken pieces. Then add remaining 1 and half teaspoons of garam masala powder. Continue stirring till spices are mixed well.

Cook the chicken on a very low flame for around 15 to 20 minutes till well done. Make sure to stir the chicken once in a while to prevent it from sticking to the pan!

Sprinkle the chicken with pepper powder (1 teaspooon) and serve! It makes for a great starter dish! 🙂
